Analysis of Air Supply Type and Exhaust Location in Laboratory Animal Research Facilities Using CFD
نویسندگان
چکیده
The results from a computational fluid dynamics (CFD) study on the effect of air supply diffuser type and exhaust location in a typical animal research laboratory are presented. The results show that low-level exhausts produce higher temperatures in the room and cages, but the best in-cage ventilation (lowest CO 2 concentrations) compared with ceiling or high-level exhausts. Further, the study shows that the slot diffuser seems least sensitive to exhaust position. Finally, the results show that the room concentrations of CO 2 and NH 3 do not show any supply type or exhaust location to be significantly better or worse than any other type.

Ventilation Design in Animal Research Facilities Using Static Microisolators
This paper presents the key conclusions from an extensive research project on ventilation design in animal research facilities using static microisolators. This study, which is presented in full in Memarzadeh (1998), considered both experimental and numerical aspects using the computational fluid dynamics (CFD) technique. As well as a summary of various gaseous generation rates for mice, this p...
متن کاملAdvances in cubicle design using computational fluid dynamics as a design tool.
As part of a recent animal facility refurbishment, a cubicle containment system was designed to increase the amount of experimental space and also provide containment facilities to support the holding and use of specialized animal models. In order to achieve this, a series of computational fluid dynamic (CFD) studies was undertaken to evaluate the effects of different airflows and in order to o...
متن کاملCFD Modeling Study of High Temperature and Low Oxygen Content Exhaust Gases Combustion Furnaces
This paper reports a CFD modeling study on the possibility of using high temperature and low oxygen content exhaust gases as oxidant for combustion in an industrial furnace by a written computer program. Under these conditions, the predicted results for the flow and heat transfer properties are compared with those under the several cases of conventional and highly preheated...
متن کاملIn-Trim Flight Investigations of a Conceptual Fluidic Thrust-Vectored Unmanned Tail-Sitter Aircraft
The feasibility of using a stand alone Fluidic Thrust-Vectoring (FTV) system for the purpose of longitudinal trim of an unmanned aerial vehicle is the focus of the research presented in this paper. Since the fluidic thrust vectoring requires high pressure secondary air to deflect the engine exhaust gases, this research also provides an analytical toolset for preliminary sizing of a suitable sec...
متن کاملNatural Ventilation: Analysis of Indoor Airflow in an Assumed Cubic Building with Opposite Openings by CFD Investigations
The natural ventilation is an easy way to exchange the indoor polluted warm air with outdoor fresh air. The wind power injects outdoor fresh air into the building. A good indoor air current and subsequently a proper exhaust depend on the openings’ conditions and their situations. A serious architectural question is under what conditions of the openings the wind-cross ventilation can be effectiv...
